QAMRA

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

QAMRA grew from an idea into a physical archive through the helpful insight of various individuals, organisations and archives. We would like to take this space to acknowledge their efforts.

The need for a queer archive was recognised by Ponni Arasu whom we’d like to thank for propelling us on this journey. The Queer Archiving Workshop held in August, 2013 facilitated a number of significant interactions for us, particularly with the late historian Saleem Kidwai who provided invaluable guidance for us on the process of cataloguing our collections. We’d like to thank Niruj Mohan Ramanujam for co-organising the workshop and being a part of our journey ever since. Thanks also to Lawrence Liang for helping us navigate the legal terrain of privacy with regard to our collections.

We were also fortunate to visit various institutional and community-run archives, as well as participate in international archiving conferences such as the 13th Forum Expanded at Berlinale 2018 and ALMS Berlin 2019. These conferences introduced us to many Queer and other archives in the Global North.

Our thanks to Anuja Gupta, Ashwini Ailawadi and Sujata Winfield for allowing us to catalogue the papers of Siddhartha Gautam. Vivek Divan was involved in subsequent discussions regarding presenting some of the material at the Brudner Prize 2019 Memorial Lecture held at Yale University and New York City.

Archives / Archivists Consulted:

We are thankful to the generosity of many archivists who gave us their valuable time and expertise, and feedback on our material. Our sincere thanks to Svati Shah for making these visits happen.
