QAMRA

The Garage Sale is a favourite recurring event organised as part of Pride Month in Bengaluru every year. Members of the community donate clothes, footwear, knick knacks, art, electronics and appliances which are sold at a reduced price. All collected proceedings are used by Namma Pride for its various organisational costs.

In 2021, the Garage Sale was held on 12 December, at the Alternative Law Forum (ALF) terrace, and QAMRA had a stall there. It was our first introduction to Bangalore’s queer public after having moved to NLSIU. We were interacting with queer people from the city and other parts of the country, piquing their curiosity in our shared queer history. We had made postcards and bookmarks featuring some material from the archive, which were offered as gifts to people who made donations to the archive.

Namma Pride, previously known as Bengaluru Pride, is the collective that organises Pride Month in the city, usually in the month of November. Pride Month in the city features diverse events such as the Diversity Fair, Queer Carnival, Badminton tournaments, a run, Transgender Day of Remembrance, Yoga workshops, parties, drag nights, potlucks, panel discussions, spoken word events, the Garage Sale, art shows, and culminates with the Pride March.
